Choose your version of the day
The best plan depends on the time and effort you have. Use this comparison to make one clear choice, then check the official park pages before setting out.
| Plan | What it means | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Canyon introduction | Ride the Zion Canyon shuttle when it operates, then choose a stop and a walk that fits your group. | Check the current shuttle route, first and last service, and trail status. |
| River day | Riverside Walk leads toward the start of The Narrows. Entering the river is a separate decision. | Check water conditions and flash-flood potential before any Narrows hike. |
| Permit hike | Angels Landing requires a permit for the chains section. A different dry trail may suit a flexible day. | Check the permit rules and current trail closures before committing. |
Before you leave
Check the park’s conditions and shuttle pages. Save an offline map and choose a main activity plus an easier backup. Shuttle access and trail closures can change.
At the visitor center
Confirm the last return shuttle and your group’s turnaround time before riding up-canyon. Carry water and plan for sun and changing weather.
If the river is your goal
Treat The Narrows as a conditional plan. River flow, storms upstream, and closures matter more than a photo itinerary; the NPS Narrows safety page is the day-of source.
