A slow walk on the Anhinga Trail

The Anhinga Trail is a short place to slow down and watch the sawgrass marsh. The best sighting may be the one you notice while standing still.

What to expect

The NPS describes this as a 0.8-mile round trip through sawgrass marsh and lists the trail as wheelchair accessible. Alligators, turtles, anhingas, herons, and egrets are among the animals visitors may see.

Wildlife is never guaranteed. Give animals space, remain on the trail, and bring water and sun protection for a comfortable visit.

Make it a useful stop

Start with the official trail page for access details and current conditions. Move slowly, scan the water and vegetation, and leave enough time to enjoy the boardwalk rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.

If you are hoping for bird activity, take a moment to look across the marsh at different distances. A small pair of binoculars can help you watch without approaching wildlife.
